Kyle Kuzma Biography Details, Age, Net Worth, and Basketball Career
Kyle Alexander Kuzma is an American basketball player who plays power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. Kuzma is a part of the new wave of power forwards who can spread the floor and shoot from the perimeter, with Kuzma earning attention early in his career as a player who can knock down shots and help the young core of the Lakers turn the franchise around.
Kyle Kuzma started his high school career at Bentley High School in Burton, Michigan. After averaging a double-double as a junior, he transferred to Rise Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His goal in transferring to the prep school was to be better trained for basketball at the next level. He put up 22 points per game in his lone season with Rise Academy, earning offers from several high major college programs.
College Career (Utah)
Kuzma chose to be a college basketball player at the University of Utah, sitting out his first season as a redshirt after making a late decision to join the Utes. He played for two years with Utah after his redshirt year, averaging double figures in both of those seasons. In his junior season, Kuzma averaged 16.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest and was named to the all-Pac-12 first team.
After his second season with the Utes, Kuzma decided to enter the NBA Draft and cut his collegiate career short. Utah failed to reach the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament during Kuzma’s two seasons with the team, but their 47 wins during that time period made Utah one of the top programs in college basketball for those two seasons.
Kyle Kuzma was taken with the 27th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Brooklyn Nets. During the draft, he was sent to the Los Angeles Lakers along with Brook Lopez in exchange for D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov. Kuzma immediately turned heads in the Summer League before his rookie season. He earned Summer League title game MVP honors after scoring 30 points against the Portland Trail Blazers, with the game televised on ESPN for all to see.
During the regular season, Kuzma continued to impress, earning NBA All-Rookie first-team honors. He averaged 16.1 points per game and 6.3 rebounds, with his stats prompting the Lakers to keep him around while overhauling their roster. The Lakers have since acquired LeBron James in free agency and Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans, with Kuzma remaining a part of the nucleus of the team as it hopes to attain success in the playoffs. Kuzma has remained a double-figure scorer for the Lakers, even as his usage has decreased with the implementation of multiple stars.
Going forward with the Lakers, Kuzma’s value will lie in the addition of depth to their lineup. With contending teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks all boasting loads of depth, players like Kuzma can often be the difference between getting across the finish line in the race for a title and falling short.
Kyle Kuzma Net Worth, Salary, Endorsements & Career Earnings
Kyle Kuzma signed a four year, $8.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2017. Kuzma is still on his rookie contract, with the Lakers exercising their team options to keep Kuzma on the roster for the final two years of that deal. He has yet to sign an extension with the Lakers and will enter the final year of his rookie contract in the 2020-2021 season.
Kuzma has an estimated net worth of $3 million. He has endorsement deals with Puma and sneaker reselling site GOAT under his belt and should see an increase in his earnings when he signs his second NBA contract.
