Giannis Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, Greece on December 6, 1994. His parents, Charles and Veronica, were immigrants from Nigeria. He has four brothers, two older and two younger. Giannis didn’t begin playing basketball until he was 11. He started his basketball career playing for the Filathlitikos youth league team.
Antetokounmpo was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013 with the 15th overall pick in the NBA Draft. After a couple of slowly progressive seasons, Antetokounmpo began making a serious impact in the NBA during the 2015-2016 NBA season. Now, Antetokounmpo has made the All-Star Game each of the last four seasons and has even won a league MVP.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Basketball Career
Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t begin playing basketball until 2007. By 2009, he was playing for the Filathlitikos youth league team. In 2011, Antetokounmpo began playing with the senior men’s team of Filathlitikos in the semi-pro Greek B Basketball League. During the 2012-2013 season, he moved up to the Greek A2 League.
A few days after his 18th birthday, Antetokounmpo signed a four-year deal to play with the Spanish club CAI Zaragoza. The contract wasn’t set to begin until 2013-2014 so Antetokounmpo remained with Filathlitkos for the remainder for the 2012-2013 season.
On April 28, 2013, Antetokounmpo officially became eligible for the 2013 NBA Draft. The Bucks selected him with the 15th overall pick. At 18 years old, Antetokounmpo made his NBA debut on October 13th. He made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
In his second season, Antetokounmpo ended up participating in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest and helped lead the Bucks to a 41-41 season. In his third season, Antetokounmpo made a huge leap. He recorded his first career triple-double and his shooting numbers increased across the board. He became the first player in Milwaukee history to record more than three triple-doubles in a season.
In September of 2016, Antetokounmpo signed his four-year deal. He has made the All-Star team each year since signing that contract. During the 2018-2019 season, Antetokounmpo was named the league MVP. He was named an All-Star captain in both 2019 and 2020.
