Anthony Davis Biography Details, Age, Net Worth, and Basketball Career
Anthony Marshon Davis Jr. is an American professional basketball player who plays power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. Known for his versatility, his high skill level and his trademark unibrow, Davis is one of the most valuable players of his generation in the NBA.
Anthony Davis Basketball Career
Anthony Davis played his high school basketball for the Perspectives Charter School in Chicago, Illinois. He put up absurd numbers in high school, averaging 32 points and 22 rebounds per game in his senior season. But it was his play in the AAU circuit that helped him earn national attention, with Davis being ranked as the No. 1 recruit in his class by ESPN when he signed with the Kentucky Wildcats.
The University of Kentucky was where Anthony Davis played his college basketball, where Davis averaged a double-double in his freshman year. Davis shot 62% from the field and averaged 4.7 blocked shots per game. He started all 40 games that season for the Kentucky Wildcats, who won the NCAA Tournament with Davis as their top player.
Davis was named the national player of the year and was a consensus first-team All-American as a freshman, as well as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
Davis elected to enter the NBA Draft following his freshman season, as he was projected to go No. 1 overall if he left Kentucky for the NBA. He left Kentucky holding the program record for blocked shots in a season and tied for the program record for games started in a single season.
Anthony Davis was drafted with the first overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets, who later became the New Orleans Pelicans. He started his basketball career averaging 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds in his first NBA season. His rookie season saw him finish second in rookie of the year voting to Damian Lillard, though Davis did earn first-team All-NBA rookie honors.
Davis improved rapidly from there, averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game in every season after his rookie campaign. He helped the Pelicans get to the playoffs twice in the difficult Western Conference, and was named to the NBA All-Star Game six times as a Pelican alongside stars such as Kevin Durant and Steph Curry. In 2017, Davis was named All-Star Game MVP.
Davis, despite all of his success with the team, was unable to make things work with the Pelicans in the long run. In 2019, he requested a trade and let the team know that he would not sign a contract extension with them. Davis was eventually traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks. The trade allowed Davis to join forces with LeBron James in an attempt to outperform the crosstown Clippers in the West.
Davis has also represented the United States in his career, playing for the national team in the 2012 Olympic games as well as the 2014 FIBA World Cup. The United States won the gold medal in both of those competitions.
Anthony Davis Net Worth, Salary, Endorsements & Career Earnings
Anthony Davis signed a five year, $127 million deal with the Pelicans in 2015. He has informed the Lakers that he will not sign a contract extension before the conclusion of his current contract to get a max deal. Davis has earned $95 million in NBA contract payments thus far and is owed $55 million in the final two years of his contract.
Davis’ net worth is estimated to be $60 million. He makes plenty of money from endorsements, in addition to his NBA salary. Nike, Red Bull, Foot Locker and Saks are all endorsed by Davis, whose status as a superstar player in a major market has made him an attractive endorser for brands.
Anthony Davis Personal Life
Anthony Davis was born in Chicago to Eranier Davis and Anthony Davis Sr. He has a twin sister named Antoinette, as well as a sister named Iesha. Davis is not currently in a public relationship and does not have any children.
