Josh Aloiye Okogie was born on September 1, 1998, in Lagos, Nigeria. Josh was born to Pius and Anthonia Okogie alongside his siblings Evaristus, Nathaniel, Rachael, and Emmanuel. When Josh was only three years of age, his family emigrated to the United States. The Okogie family settled in Snellville, Georgia. It was in Snellville, Georgia where Josh began his high school basketball career at Shiloh High School. Following high school, Okogie went on to remain in Georgia and play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He played two seasons for the Yellow Jackets before declaring for the 2018 NBA Draft. Josh Okogie was selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is currently a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Josh Okogie attended high school at Shiloh High School in Snellville, Georgia. This was his local high school in the town that his family emigrated to from Nigeria. In his senior year, Okogie averaged 19.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 4.9 steals per game. While leading the Generals to a 24-6 record, Okogie helped them top it off with a Region 8-6A Championship. He was subsequently named to the All-State 6A first team. Okogie then committed to play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Josh Okogie was certain he wanted to remain in the state of Georgia for college, signing to Georgia Tech on October 13, 2015. In just his freshman year as a Yellow Jacket, Okogie averaged 16.1 points and 5.4 rebounds en route to being named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Okogie scored 596 points in his freshman year, making him the third-highest freshman scorer in program history. He started in all 37 games for Georgia Tech in 2016-17. In his sophomore year, Okogie led Georgia Tech in scoring with 18.2 points per game. He was then selected third team All-ACC for 2017-18. Following his sophomore year, Okogie declared for the 2018 NBA Draft.
