Collin Sexton Biography Details, Age, Net Worth, and Basketball Career

Collin Darnell Sexton is an American basketball player who plays point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the National Basketball Association. Sexton is in his second season in the NBA after being drafted in 2018. After a decorated amateur basketball career, he was brought in to help the Cavs get over the losses of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, with his scoring and ball-handling bringing some of the best of both players’ qualities back into the team.

Collin Sexton Basketball Career

High School Career (Pebblebrook High School)

In his high school career, Collin Sexton spent time at two schools. First, he played for Hillgrove High School for two years. Ahead of his junior year, Sexton went to Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, Georgia. He was his team’s MVP at Pebblebrook, averaging 23 points per game and earning a spot as a top-10 recruit in ESPN’s recruiting rankings and as a McDonald’s All-American during his senior season. His alley-oop dunk in the Jordan Brand Classic was one of the highlights of the game when he participated. Sexton also helped the United States earn gold in the 2016 FIBA U17 world championship during his high school career.

College Career (Alabama Crimson Tide)

While the University of Alabama is not a traditional power in college basketball, Sexton elected to play there under head coach Avery Johnson. He helped Alabama get to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament in his only season with the Crimson Tide, helping them get to the NCAA Tournament as well.

Sexton averaged over 19 points per game in his one season in Tuscaloosa, making the decision to turn down Atlanta-based Georgia Tech and more high-profile programs look like a smart one. While Sexton faced scrutiny for possible impermissible benefits at Alabama, nothing stuck and he was able to play his one year before going to the NBA.

NBA Career

Collin Sexton was selected with the eighth overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. With Irving and James both gone from the team, Sexton was selected to lead a group of players that were less heralded, including Cedi Osman, Larry Nance and Tristan Thompson back to playoff contention.

In Sexton’s rookie season, he averaged 16.0 PPG and 3.0 assists per game. While his field goal percentage was solid at 43%, one of the real FAQs about his game is whether he will be able to up his assist numbers and do a better job distributing the ball in the future. With the Cavs bringing in Darius Garland and Kevin Porter Jr. for his second season, Sexton’s assists remained at 3.0 per game, which stands as his career-high average.

Collin Sexton Net Worth, Salary, Endorsements & Career Earnings

Collin Sexton signed a four year, $19 million deal with Cleveland in 2018. After the 2020 NBA season, Sexton still has two years left on his rookie deal. With this being his first contract, Sexton’s career NBA salary is just the $19 million from the first deal he signed.

Sexton signed a shoe deal with Nike heading into his rookie season, providing him with another revenue stream at an early stage of his pro career.

Collin Sexton Personal Life

Born in Marietta, Georgia, Sexton is the son of Darnell and Gia Sexton. He has a sister named Giauna as well as a brother named Jordan. As of now, he has not been reported to have any significant other or any children.
