Aaron Addison Gordon was born on September 16, 1995, in San Jose, California. He was born to Shelly and Ed Gordon, alongside his siblings Drew and Elise. Aaron has basketball in his blood, as his father was a former standout basketball player at San Diego State University. Aaron Gordon attended Archbishop Mitty High School in San, Jose California. Gordon was a four-year varsity starter at Archbishop Mitty, leading them to two Division II state championship crowns. In Gordon’s senior year, he did carry them to the finals, but they suffered a loss in the Open Division final. In his freshman year, Gordon averaged 11.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game. In his sophomore year, Gordon averaged 16.4 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game. The following year he increased those numbers to 22.9 points, 12.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game. In his senior year, Gordon averaged 21.6 points, 15.7 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks per game.
After a stellar career at Archbishop Mitty, Gordon participated in the 2013 McDonald’s All-American game. After winning MVP of the game, the 5-Star, 4th rated recruit took his talents to the University of Arizona.
In a press conference prior to the McDonald’s All-American game, Aaron Gordon publicly committed to the University of Arizona on April 2, 2013. Gordon played one season for the Wildcats. In his freshman year, Gordon averaged 12.4 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block per game. His impressive freshman campaign helped Gordan be named a top 30 finalist or the Naismith College Player of the Year. In addition, he was named All-Pac-12 First Team, Pac-12 Freshman Player of the Year, and Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. Following his one year at Arizona, Gordon declared for the 2014 NBA Draft.
The Orlando Magic drafted Aaron Gordon with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft on June 26, 2014. Gordon officially inked his name with the Magic on July 2. Gordon’s NBA career did not start as planned, as he was forced to miss 32 games after playing in only 11 games. A fractured bone in his left foot against the Washington Wizards on November 15 caused Gordon to miss the extended time. Gordon made his return on January 18.
