A big defenseman playing heavy minutes on a struggling team. The opportunity has enabled him to improve by leaps and bounds. When on the point, he shows a very crafty offensive mind, and he isn’t bashful about carrying the puck deep and extending forays in the offensive end, but the results really having shown on the scoresheets. He offers a nice package of upside, given his skill, mobility and size, with the caveat that he sometimes puck watches, or that he currently lacks reliable two-way play, so, you’ll need in him to deploy him anywhere but in a bottom pairing. Plays on penalty kills, and a superb shot blocker. I prefer overzealousness to puck watching, and can handle that (and the mistakes that come with it to indecision.) Nonetheless, he is a big mobile defenseman who plays big minutes on team that struggles most night, and he continues to improve his positional play and his offensive side is emerging. Maintains good gap control on his shifts and is more than willing to jump into the attack and letting dangerous shots go. I am going to put part of his lack of growth on the fact his Kamloops team has a single high end offensive forward, and he is a swing for the fences if an NHL team drafts him in the top 100. And I bet his chippy, aggressive play, shot blocking and rugged anticipation that aids his name being called.
