Son of Denis Gauthier, Ethan is a strong two-way centre-wing and the first over-all pick in the Quebec Major Junior League in 2021 where he has a nice first season of 39 points in 65 games. He has good vision, wheels, and is a handful when his team is in the attack zone, using his anchor, physically, and hands while making contact with the defenders. Involved in all phases of games and although not as flashy as many of the star-studded members of this class, he is a solid candidate to following in his father's footsteps as a NHLer. Can drive the play, has good jump in his stride, and is agile tight spaces. An effective finisher with creativity to go with his soft hands. On the power play, he is effective attacking the box confidently. His flash comes from his consistent focused play that sees and reacts to all on-ice play. He is involved and it doesn't take long before the opposition knows it. He can lead, score, check and his value exceeds the on-ice attributes. Did I mention he rarely backs down from anyone? Maybe it is a family trait.
