The former Duke Blue Devil standout Luke Douglas Kennard was born on June 24, 1996. He is currently a professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA. Kennard was born in Franklin, Ohio alongside his sister Lauren to Jennifer and Mark Kennard. His father instilled the desire to train like a basketball player in Luke at an early age. He desperately steered Luke towards becoming a professional basketball player. After all of the hard work, Kennard finally achieved his dream of playing in the NBA.

Luke Kennard played high school basketball for Franklin High School in his hometown of Franklin, Ohio. After a great high school career, Kennard was a highly recruited player. Luke Kennard ultimately chose to play for the Duke University Blue Devils. After just two seasons at Duke, Kennard declared for the 2017 NBA Draft. Luke was selected 12th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2017 NBA Draft.

High School Career (Franklin High School)

Luke Kennard attended Franklin High School in his hometown of Franklin, Ohio. Kennard had a stellar high school career, earning eyes from scouts all over the country. In his senior year, Luke was named both the Parade National Player of the Year. In both his junior and senior years, Luke was named the Ohio Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year. Kennard was able to tally enough points in high school to mark with the second-most points in Ohio history.

His impressive high school resume was enough to earn him a spot on the Duke University Blue Devils.

College Career (Duke Blue Devils)

In his freshman year at Duke University, Kennard averaged 11.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. His breakout game came on February 6, 2016, against NC State where he poured in 26 points in a win. In his 2016-17 sophomore season, Kennard showed a massive improvement. He picked up his numbers to 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Kennard’s Duke career high scoring game came with a 34-point outing against Maine on January 28, 2017. Kennard also had an excellent ACC Tournament in his sophomore year, adding 24 points against Louisville, 20 points against North Carolina, and 16 points against Notre Dame in the ACC Championship game. After being named first-team All-ACC in just his second year at Duke, Kennard decided to declare for the 2017 NBA Draft.

NBA Career

The Detroit Pistons grabbed the Duke Blue Devil product with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Kennard’s NBA debut took place on October 20, 2017, against the Washington Wizards. In his debut, Luke tallied 11 points and two steals in 18 minutes on the court. His first career start came on December 15, 2017, where he replaced the injured Avery Bradley. In his first game as a starter, Kennard scored 9 points and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists against the Indiana Pacers. His season-high of his rookie campaign was 23 points against the Chicago Bulls.

The 2018-19 season started with some injury troubles for Kennard. He suffered a left knee strain, followed by a sprained AC joint in his shoulder that caused him to miss the Summer League as well as a small portion of the regular season. Kennard was able to bounce back, setting a new career-high 28 points in a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Luke was able to top his career-best scoring night with a 30-point barrage on the Indiana Pacers in the 2019-20 season.
