The former Duke Blue Devil standout, Justice Jon Winslow, was born on March 26, 1996. He was born in Houston, Texas to Robin and Rickie Winslow. His father was a former Division I and NBA player. Winslow also has three older brothers, Cedrick, Brandon, and Josh, as well as an older sister, Bianca. Athleticism runs strongly through the Winslow household.
Justise Winslow played for St. John’s High School in Houston, Texas. After a McDonald’s All-American worthy high school career, Winslow went on to play for the Duke Blue Devils in 2014. He played one season for Duke University before forgoing his final three years and entering the 2015 NBA Draft. He was drafted by the Miami Heat with the 10th overall pick. Winslow played four seasons with the Heat before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2020. He is currently a member of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Justise Winslow Basketball Career
Justise Winslow attended St.John’s High School in Houston Texas. He started for the program for all four years. He won league championships in both his freshman and senior seasons. In 2013 as a senior, he averaged 27.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. This fantastic season was enough to name him the 2013 Gatorade Texas Player of the Year and to earn a spot as a McDonald’s All-American.
Going into college, he was ranked 15th overall in the recruitment class as a 5-star recruit.
In his one year as a Duke Blue Devil, Justise Winslow made the best of it. Winslow
averaged 12.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in his freshman season. He later earned ALL-ACC honors. In the 2015 NCAA Tournament, Winslow averaged 14.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Not only did he have an excellent tournament individually, but he also helped Duke win the 2015 NCAA Tournament Championship.
After the successful year, Winslow decided to take his ring and move on to the NBA. In April of 2015, Winslow declared for the 2015 NBA Draft.
Justise Winslow was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Miami Heat in 2015. He officially inked his name with the Heat on July 3, 2015. In his NBA debut against the Charlotte Hornets on October 28, Winslow tallied five points and seven rebounds off the bench. His high scoring game of his rookie year was 20 points in a win over the Denver Nuggets on March 14. Winslow immediately showed his defensive abilities in the NBA, often being called on to guard players like LeBron James and James Harden.
In the 2016-2017 Winslow quickly earned a starting role for the Heat. His best game of the season came on December 22, 2016, against the Los Angeles Lakers where he poured in 23 points and added 13 rebounds. Unfortunately, less than a month later, Winslow tore his labrum in his right shoulder. This injury required surgery and caused Winslow to miss the remainder of the season. Winslow came back healthy to start the next season, playing in the first 27 games of the season. After a 15 point outing against the Brooklyn Nets on December 9, Winslow once again was forced to miss extended time shortly after. However, Winslow did return after missing a few weeks. Justise had a solid playoff performance in Game 3 of the first round against the Philadelphia 76ers with 19 points.
In 2018-19, Winslow was back to coming off the bench. In his first start of the season on November 3, 2018, Winslow tallied 15 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists versus the Atlanta Hawks. On December 10, Justise scored a career-high 28 points against the Los Angeles Lakers. Justise Winslow was then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies on February 6, 2020, in a three-team trade involving the Minnesota Timberwolves.
