So many prospects simply are not afforded quality reps, or just aren’t along in their fitness training to establish themselves as good prospects. Playing on a stacked Finn Junior team, Mäkinen, at times, shows positive attributes that make one think he does have a future. He has size, defensive awareness, and plays his position well. On offense, he doesn’t overthink things,or overhandle - he makes the smart pass. He plays on the PK. Has scoring ability. He captained the World Junior champion Finnish U-20 team full of up and coming drafted players and the dynamic duo who will be off the board before the 4th selection is made. So his role was not as prominent, but the reason was probably more related to his simply not being strong enough yet. He needs to increase his endurance and strength to handle puck battles and give him power when on the attack. A long term project that just might surprise.
