Mostert spent four years at Purdue University, where he made more of an impact as a kick returner than he did a running back. In his freshman year, Mostert set a school record for average yards per kick return, averaging over 33 yards per return. Mostert averaged 5.6 yards per carry in 136 career carries with Purdue. He amassed eight total touchdowns during his collegiate career, six of which came on the ground.

Raheem Mostert was an undrafted free agent in 2015 who was first signed by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was signed to the Eagles practice squad after failing to make their 52-man roster. From 2015 to 2016, Mostert bounced around the league as a kick returner, including with the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears. 

In 2016, Mostert joined the 49ers, where he latched on as a running back in the league starting in 2018. Mostert averaged 7.7 yards per carry in limited action as a running back in 2018, before becoming a star during the 2019 season and postseason. In the 2019 playoffs, Mostert scored five rushing touchdowns in three games to help the Niners reach the Super Bowl.
