College Career (NC State)

Hines committed to NC State to play football. He started his collegiate career as a wide receiver before transitioning to running back in his sophomore season. Despite transitioning to running back in his second season, he only totaled 44 rushing yards on 13 attempts. However, he caught 43 passes for 525 yards. In his senior season he broke out as a running back, rushing for 1,113 yards and 12 touchdowns. He finished his college career after just three seasons, finishing with 1,400 rushing yards and 933 receiving yards.

Hines was also part of the NC State track and field team. He placed third at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 100 meters with a time of 10.34 seconds.

NFL Career

Hines finished with the fastest 40-yard dash time among running backs at the 2018 NFL Draft Combine with a time of 4.38 seconds. The Indianapolis Colts drafted Hines in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft with the 104th overall pick. Hines rushed for 314 yards and two touchdowns his rookie season. However, he cemented himself as a threat in the passing game with 63 receptions, 425 yards, and two receiving touchdowns.

Hines returned two punts for touchdowns in one game during his second season, becoming the first Colt to do so. He had a drop in rushing and receiving statistics in his second season. He totaled just 519 yards and two touchdowns. 

After the Colts drafted Jonathan Taylor in the 2020 NFL Draft, Hines dropped down to third on the depth chart. A season ending injury to starting running back helped Hines gain more playing time. He is on pace for his best statistical season in his three-year career.
