Nicholas Jamaal Chubb is a running back who plays for the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League. Chubb is a dynamic runner who can impact the game both in the running game and by catching passes out of the backfield. He comes from a family full of talented athletes, and has certainly done enough already to make them proud with his play on the field.
Nick Chubb played high school football at Cedartown High School in his hometown of Cedartown, Georgia. He put up eye-popping numbers in his final two years in school. As a junior, he scored 38 touchdowns, and he tacked on another 41 as a senior. During those two seasons, he amassed over 5,000 yards on the ground. Rated as a four-star recruit, Chubb chose to play his college football at the University of Georgia in the SEC.
At Georgia, Chubb played a prominent role with the Bulldogs for all four of his years with the team. As a freshman, he was slated to sit behind Todd Gurley before Gurley was suspended, paving the way for Chubb to see some action. As a freshman, he scored 14 rushing touchdowns and rushed for over 1,500 yards. He closed the season by rushing for 256 yards and earning Belk Bowl MVP honors against Louisville.
As a sophomore, Chubb suffered a knee injury after playing in just six games. That knee injury ended his sophomore campaign, but Chubb returned as a junior to play in 13 games. He eclipsed 1,000 yards for the second time in his career, scoring eight touchdowns, including the game winner of the Liberty Bowl over TCU.
In his senior season, Chubb rushed for six yards per carry, earning over 1,000 yards yet again. He scored 15 rushing touchdowns, helping Georgia reach the College Football Playoff, where the Bulldogs made it to the championship game.
Nick Chubb was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns with the 35th overall pick. Chubb made his NFL debut in the first game of the 2018 season, when he appeared for the Browns in a tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chubb impressed in his rookie year, racking up over 1,000 total yards and 10 total touchdowns.
In his second season in the league, Chubb saw more of a primary role in the offense without as much competition in the Browns’ backfield. He carried the ball 298 times and rushed for 1,494 yards. With another eight touchdowns to his name, Chubb was selected to the 2019 Pro Bowl. Through three seasons, Chubb has had at least eight touchdowns in every year of his career.
In his third season, Chubb did suffer a knee injury that impacted his MCL. He was put on injured reserve for a portion of the season but returned later in the year without any ill effects. Given his previous history with knee injuries, Chubb’s return was a welcome sight for the Browns.
Nick Chubb signed a four year, $7.3 million deal with the Cleveland Browns in 2018 after he was drafted by the team. Chubb earned a $3.4 million signing bonus in that deal. Chubb has already seen some endorsements come in, as brands like Dodge and Nike have chosen to attach their names to his star power.
