As a senior, Gordon rushed for over 2,500 yards and 29 rushing touchdowns, adding three receiving touchdowns as well. That season saw Gordon earn a number of accolades, including the Doak Walker Award and the Jim Brown Trophy. Gordon was named the Big Ten running back of the year, and was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy.
Melvin Gordon was drafted with the 15th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers, and stayed with the team as they became the Los Angeles Chargers. Gordon failed to find the end zone in his rookie season, but has put up huge numbers every year since. Each of the next four seasons saw Gordon score at least eight rushing touchdowns, as he was a key component of the Chargers’ offense.
Gordon left the Chargers after the 2019 season, as the teams were unable to agree to terms on a contract extension.
