Quintorris Lopez Jones, better known as Julio Jones, is a wide receiver in the National Football League who plays for the Atlanta Falcons. Jones has long been one of the most explosive playmakers in the NFL, and has helped the Falcons reach the Super Bowl with his otherworldly ability to get open and make plays.
Julio Jones played high school football at Foley High School, where he was also a star basketball player and standout track athlete. Jones scored 16 touchdowns in his junior season and participated in the Under Armour High School All-America game. He was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and chose to play his college football for Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Julio Jones started his Alabama career with a bang, earning SEC freshman of the year honors in 2008. He was the first true freshman to start at wide receiver in an Alabama season opening game. He averaged 15.9 yards per catch as a freshman, with four touchdowns.
As a sophomore, Jones’ production declined somewhat. He caught 15 fewer passes than he did in his freshman season and had over 300 fewer receiving yards. But the Crimson Tide continued to win games, which was all that mattered to him. That season, Alabama made it to the BCS national championship game, where they defeated the Texas Longhorns for the national title.
In his junior season, Jones racked up 1,133 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, earning first-team all-SEC honors that year. And while Jones’ statistical output was better than it was the year before, Alabama lost multiple games that season and failed to compete for the national championship. Jones elected to skip his senior season and go into the NFL Draft.
Julio Jones was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. As a rookie, Jones averaged a career-best 17.8 yards per catch with eight receiving touchdowns. Since that season, he has had only one year where he has had under 1,000 yards receiving. That was his third year in the league, where injuries limited him to just five games played for the entire year.
Reliability has been the name of the game for Julio Jones throughout his time in the NFL. He has caught over 75 passes in all but two seasons in his career, with those two years being his rookie season and the year where injuries derailed him. Jones has made the Pro Bowl seven times in his illustrious career, and has led the league in receiving yards twice.
The 2016 season saw Jones help the Atlanta Falcons get to the Super Bowl. Jones hauled in 83 passes for 1,409 yards and six touchdowns that season for a Falcons offense that was a juggernaut. Jones had another 334 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs that year, as the Falcons cruised through the NFC, despite falling short against the Patriots in the Super Bowl.
When it comes to postseason production, Julio Jones is no stranger to taking advantage of his opportunities. In eight career playoff games, Jones has averaged over 100 yards per game. He also has six receiving touchdowns in those eight games, as Matt Ryan has had no problem finding his number one target when the games matter most.
In 2020, injuries slowed Julio Jones down again somewhat. A hamstring injury kept him off of the field for a portion of the season. But in 2020, Jones managed to break the record for receptions as a member of the Atlanta Falcons for his career. That record was previously held by Roddy White, who was the top receiver during the previous era of Atlanta Falcons football before Julio Jones came along.
Julio Jones is currently on his third NFL contract, after signing a three year, $66 million deal with the Falcons in 2019. He originally signed a four-year contract with a salary of $16.1 million over that time frame. Jones’ net worth is currently estimated at $50 million. Jones’ success and longevity in the NFL have led to endorsement deals with brands such as Chevrolet and Visa during his career.
Julio Jones is the son of Queen Marvin, who raised him and his brother Phillip Jones as a single mother. Jones does have a girlfriend, Jasmine Villegas, who is known to be a singer. At this time, he is not known to have any children.
