Jonnu Smith is a tight end in the National Football League who plays for the Tennessee Titans. An explosive athlete, Smith is one of the new breed of tight end that can catch passes just as well as he blocks. He is a regular target in his team’s passing attack and has helped make his team difficult to defend.
Originally from Philadelphia, Jonnu Smith played his high school football at West Port High School in Ocala, Florida. He was moved down south to live with his aunt after a difficult childhood. While he wasn’t deemed a top-tier recruit after his high school career, Smith earned an athletic scholarship to play for Florida International University.
At Florida International, Smith played in all four of the years he was involved with the team. He caught a total of 178 balls for 2,001 receiving yards. Smith hauled in 18 touchdown passes over his four year FIU career, including eight touchdowns in his sophomore season. He ended his collegiate career by participating in the 2017 Senior Bowl.
After an impressive showing in the NFL Scouting Combine, Jonnu Smith was selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. In an offense featuring elite weapons like AJ Brown and Derrick Henry, Smith has been productive as a pro despite not being the focal point of the team’s offense. He has had three or more touchdowns in every NFL season with the exception of his rookie year.
Jonnu Smith signed a four year, $3.1 million rookie contract in 2017. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2020 NFL season. Given his production in 2020, it is expected his net worth will climb with the next contract he signs.
Jonnu Smith is the son of Karen Smith and Wayne Smith. He is the youngest of six kids. Smith is not currently in a relationship, but does have a son with one of his exes.
