Jonathan Taylor is a running back who plays for the Indianapolis Colts in the National Football League.
Not to be confused with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who played Randy Taylor in Home Improvement, Taylor comes from an elite pedigree of running backs at the University of Wisconsin.
He has brought his considerable talent to the NFL and has made an immediate impact with the Colts.
Jonathan Taylor played his high school football at Salem High School in New Jersey. His senior season was a record-setting one, as Taylor rushed for over 2,800 yards in his final high school season. He was named the high school player of the year across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware for that season.
He had committed to play college football for nearby Rutgers, but changed his mind and went with Wisconsin instead.
At the University of Wisconsin, Taylor had an incredibly successful career. He was twice named Big Ten running back of the year and won the Doak Walker Award twice as the top running back in the country.
He rushed for over 1,900 yards in each of his three collegiate seasons, eclipsing the 2,000-yard mark in his final two years. A two-time all-American, Taylor was clearly one of the top running back prospects of his draft class and was regularly in the discussion for the Walter Camp and Maxwell Award as one of the nation’s top college football players.
Taylor was taken with the 41st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and was selected in the second round by the Indianapolis Colts.
In the early stages of his career, Taylor has shown some promise against the tougher defenses that the NFL has to offer. He has proven that he can both run and catch passes out of the backfield and was a big reason for the team’s success in his rookie campaign.
Jonathan Taylor signed a four-year contract worth $7.83 million with the Indianapolis Colts. This is Taylor’s rookie contract, and he stands to make more money should he perform well enough to earn a more lucrative second contract.
Taylor has also landed multiple endorsements early in his career, including those with Under Armour, Fanatics and Campbell’s Soup.
Jonathan Taylor is the son of Elizabeth Taylor and Jonathan James. He was raised by his mother, along with his four older siblings. He is currently dating Ayanna Chapman, who he met while he was in high school. During Taylor’s rookie season, Chapman contracted COVID-19, which caused Taylor to miss a game. He does not have any children at this time.
