At the University of Oklahoma, Mixon eclipsed 2,000 rushing yards combined across his two seasons with the team. He scored 26 combined touchdowns between his rushing and receiving. Mixon earned first-team all-Big 12 honors in 2016, when he put up 1,800 total yards and 15 total touchdowns for an explosive Sooners team. He opted to forgo his final two years of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft.
Joe Mixon was deemed to have first-round talent as evidenced by his performances in college and the NFL Scouting Combine. But he was not drafted in the first round as teams had concerns with his character after his assault on Oklahoma student Amelia Molitor. Instead, he was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
