Kirby has his command to thank for this top 10 rank. His fastball sits in the low to mid-90’s, with an average slider, yet his changeup is his best off-speed pitch. His lean frame, mild velocity, and lack of durability aren’t those of a prototypical starting pitcher, but his ability to spot his pitches helps him out tremendously. After winning Virginia’s Gatorade Player of the Year award in high school he could have been a high draft pick, but he declared himself ineligible as to not “mislead teams.” As a sophomore at Virginia he pitched a no-hitter while striking out an unbelievable 18 batters.
